This package includes:
a Battlefield tour,
Charles Fort tour
This tour will visit the site of the battle in which the Gaelic chieftans assisted by Spanish troops, were defeated by English forces, after the famous winter march from Donegal to Kinsale. O'Neill and O'Donnell marched from Donegal to Kinsale to meet with a Spanish fleet and to engage an English force at Kinsale. It went badly wrong for the Irish and the English grasped victory from the jaws of defeat. This was the final major defeat for the Gaelic Chieftains.
We will visit the strategic areas around Kinsale and the Historic town and port. Also we will also visit the famous 17th C. Charles Fort, designed by Vauban, a classic example of a five bastioned star shaped fort which was occupied until it's destruction in the Civil War in 1922.
The historic Kinsale will also feature in this most informative tour as will Desmond Castle, also known as French Prison and now a wine museum. French Prison was also used to hold American prisoners captured at sea during the American Revolution
